Can I re-install Karmic Koala without re-partitioning?

Asked by Max Lancer

I think I screwed-up upgrading from Jaunty Jackalope to Karmic Koala because even though Karmic runs I'm missing stuff on the menubar and my iMac partitions aren't showing up like they did in Jaunty Jackalope. I had a hard time doing the update because my internet kept dropping out so I'm not surprised that there might be stuff missing. I really really don't want to re-partition my whole hard disk all over again since I partitioned it with my Mac volumes. So can I somehow just delete my Karmic data in my Ubuntu partition by itself and re-install it so that it's complete? Thanks!

If you backup your important data, you can just do an install from the CD and choose to use your current Karmic partition during the installation. Go for manual partitioning, select the karmic partition to be used for "/", activate the "format" option, and install Karmic. It will format your current partition and reinstall Karmic on it. But make sure you backup everything you need :)

You can just overwrite existing Ubuntu with Ubuntu Karmic Koala.

But you will have to format the Ubuntu partition, during the installation. When you get to the partitioning window, select Ubuntu partition and format it to ext4 filesystem (no need to resize). Then you can reinstall Ubuntu on the same partition.

Can you help with this problem?
