Loud fan noise

Asked by Abel Maio

Hello.

I wanted to install Ubuntu on my Desktop PC but there is a problem. The fan is spinning at it max speed (or near that) and the sound is irritating.

With Windows I would have the same problem but I use EPU-6 Engine from Asus and I barelly ear the fan.

Is there any EPU alternative for Ubuntu? A really wanted to install Ubuntu on another partition but the noise is very loud.

My motherboard is an Asus P6T Deluxe and I tried to install Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 RC and the same problem. So I guess the problem is with the PC.

So, any good alternatives to EPU?

Thanks,
AM

But this isn't a bug I think.

If I had not have EPU installed on my Windows, the noise would be the same.

I'm asking if there is any program that can control the fan spin.

Hello,

You should try fancontrol that can be found in the Synaptic Package Manager. A BIOS upgrade could also help.

Allan :)

Thanks.

I updated the BIOS and "play" a little with Q-Fan and now I can have a silent fan.

I tried fancontrol (was already installed) but it gave an error. But the BIOS update solved the problem.

Thank you.
