In grub, boot to (Recovery mode)
It should eventually boot you to a command prompt
From there you want to change the line (in xorg.conf):
        Driver "nvidia"
to
        Driver "nv"

Then save it and reboot.

You can do this through nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Which will open up a text editor (Ctrl-W lets you search).

I just reinstalled it once again and will live with what I have. Maybe someone will come out with a driver that will work.

That "someone" is nvidia, ubuntu don't make the drivers, they do. Ask them to open their drivers if you want less problems.

I know this is answered however I just found a possible cause of the problem:
The Nvidia Driver does not like when:
Plug and Play OS is ON
IRQ is not redirected/assigned to AGP/PCI

Can you help with this problem?
