USB Keyboard Problems in 10.10

Asked by Brian Camozzi

I have a dual-boot setup with Windows Vista 64-bit & Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 edition
Motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L
BIOS is Award Modular Bios Version 6.0 PG
Keyboard is a SIATEK Eclipse II [PK02AU] USB Keyboard

Keyboard works fine in Vista and during boot up until I select an O/S from the grub menu. I CAN use the keyboard to select an O/S. (I have heard of a similar bug where users cannot select an option from the menu, and also where legacy USB support had not been enabled in the BIOS) But immediately after selecting Ubuntu, I lose keyboard functionality. If I select Vista, I have no problems. The keyboard worked with Ubuntu up until the first boot after install, and worked throughout the install.

I have another system with the same setup with the same version and no issues, the only hardware difference is the motherboard, so I'm betting its still an issue related to the BIOS, although I have already enabled usb support for the keyboard, as well as the mouse and for legacy mass storage devices. (Technically the wording in Integrated Peripherals, did not mention LEGACY.)

 Is there something I'm missing?

try gettnig the system to boot Ubuntu, once you get to the login screen unplug the keyboard, wait a little while, then plug it back in. Is it ok?

Please plug a ps2 keyboard and please be sure your maverick is fully upgraded updated...

Maverick is near to be in release candidate state https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickReleaseSchedule

To upgrade your installed maverick please use the system→Administration→Update Manager menu press on "Verify" button and update all packages

Then, shutdown and try with the usb keyboard, then if it still doesn't works with usb keyboard please log a bug...

Thank you to test maverick

I just installed 10.10 from a 11-28-2010 download. Neither USB mouse or keyboard work in Ubuntu, thought they are fine in Grub and Windows 7. PS2 mouse works (donm't have a ps2 keyboard). Legacy usb support is on in the bios. Has a fix for this issue been identified? How do I get an on-screen keyboard after logging in to ubuntu so I can doa system update?

Can you help with this problem?
