It's the same as in windows, you copy the firmware to the micro SD card via mounting it in ubuntu, safetly remove the disk as normal then put it back in your device, it's EXACTLY the same. It's not different just because it's not windows. All you are doing is putting data files on the card and telling the phone to flash the BIOS with the new data. There are videos all over youtube / googlevideo etc on how to do it.
