Asked by Hasantha Sumudupriya

I am using Ubuntu 10.04. It has no required pulgins to play songs and vedios. So, I had to download them. I want to ask that, does Ubuntu 10.10 has required pulgins to play all kinds of songs and vedios? Please, make it full with our necessaries. Please, include all required plugins to play all kinds of songs and vedios in Ubuntu 10.10. We use Ubuntu, We love Ubuntu, FOREVER !!!

Ubuntu does not include all the necessary codecs for playing videos and music, because those codecs are proprietary, and there is no open source alternative for them. Proprietary software is not the idea of open source.

Default Ubuntu installation contains only free and open source software, but every user can install everything that is necessary to experience full user experience, such as proprietary software and so called "restricted extras".

I think that is not a very big problem. You just need to find in synaptic restricted-extras package, and install it, or write in Terminal:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Ubuntu already includes the codecs that it can. You've been told how to install the others you might need from Medibuntu, when you asked the exact same question yesterday.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/126692
Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal), type the line beginning with "sudo", and press Enter.
The extra codecs will be installed, and you'll be able to play just about any audio or video file you have.
