Question about video chat

I'm not very focused on video chat but, recently, I saw that using Ekiga has made a lot of progress in connection's quality.

You may want to give it a try : it's in the Ubuntu repository (version 3.2.6 for Karmic), the last stable version is 3.2.7

If you want to do video chat with a person on Gmail then I hope the newly release voice and video plug in by Google would help you to do that within browsers like Firefox and Chrome/ium http://www.google.com/chat/video

i have tested and it work very well the chromium browser

-- install chromium, from terminal, type:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chromium-daily/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install chromium-browser-l10n
chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-nonfree

-- install google-talkplugin:

Add this repository to your sources repository channels http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/google_talk_plugin

Open a terminal and type:

wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | sudo apt-key add -
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/talkplugin/deb/stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google.list'
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install google-talkplugin

Create a gmail account and using chromium try the chat (textual, video or voice)
