Asked by Abcede dela Cruz

hello,
Apparently i had change OS from windows 7 to Linux Ubuntu, I accidentally made my hard drive into only one partition and my back-ups are on the other partition which is now part of my single drive.. The question is... Can i still recover my back ups even if they are in the same partition which I am using?? Please help!!

Could try foremost to restore data. You will need a partition mounted writable to spit the files out to. Backing up to the same drive is a REALLY bad idea. If the drive fails you have no backup. If you backup to a different drive or a remote storage and the drive fails you can restore the data easily

Use testdisk. It might even be able to recover the entire partition. Don't boot the computer from the harddrive as this could destroy the data. Boot from a Live CD and install testdisk.

If that fails, you can use photorec - that's included with testdisk.

Can you help with this problem?
