Failed to parse '/usr/share/mime/packages/miro.xml'

Asked by nossifer

some time back, i tried to install FreeMind. it called for some debian packages. since then, i have been having trouble with installing stuff. somehow, recently, i did an auto-update and it broke my package manager. it wouldnt completely update.

now, my vmware-server is broken. i have completely uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall, but i get this:

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/vmware-server_1.0.3-1_i386.deb (--unpack):
 subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
/usr/share/mime/packages/miro.xml:31: parser error : Extra content at the end of the document
<mime-info xmlns="http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/shared-mime-info">
^
Failed to parse '/usr/share/mime/packages/miro.xml'

Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/vmware-server_1.0.3-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
RESULT=100

i have done the 'apt-get autoremove' and there doesnt seem to be anything broken with that.

any help is greatly appreciated.
