ubuntu logon screen replaced by keyring password request

Asked by marcus aurelius

Interesting twist of events here.
I re-installed ubuntu 10.04 UNR on my netbook and enabled the logon password. after a few logons, the usually ubuntu logon screen vanishes and is replaced by the request for the keyring password. I checked under Groups and Users and it indicates that the logon password is enabled.

Just tried it. It just asks me to enter a new keyring password.

What's happening is when I log on, the screen that asks you to choose which user to log onto and the password no longer appears. Instead, the desktop appears and it asks for the keyring password.

Looking under Users and Groups, the user logon is still set.

No, it's not set to auto logon.

Under Users and Groups:

Password: Ask on Login

How about the suggestion to set same pw in 'Password and Encryption Keys' as used for login.

Noop. I'll spend another 3 to 4 hours to re-install everything and see what happens. ARGH!

Sorry for the inconvience you experience, but at least you have a fellow sufferer, the whole day I'm investigating on a probably minor bug, but hard to triage, this on my day off. So I emphatize your annoyance.

Can you help with this problem?
