How can I reinstall windows? My computer wont allow my recover discs to open.

Asked by Jason Hargis

I want to uninstall Ubuntu and reinstall windows 7. When I try to run the recovery discs I get a error that says program does not have permission. How do I get my computer to recognize the cd?

Installing Windows 7 is not supported here. This is Ubuntu support. I suggest you contact your supplier or post on a windows forum.

Well thanks for the help. I installed Ubuntu and I have all sorts of problems that I never had with windows. I had hope someone would know how Ubuntu worked so I could get it to read my recovery disc. Im pretty sure that if I go to a Windows support site they wont have any idea how to use Ubuntu. But thanks for the help. I really want to keep this OS now.

Hi,

You cannot run the recovery programs from inside Ubuntu : If I'm not mistaken, you need to reboot your computer with a boot priority to the CD (you may have to set-up your BIOS for that boot priority), then the recovery CD should work.

Beware, the Windows recovery CD is meant to reinstall your hard drive in its original state (factory gate) so it will probably wipe out your entire hard disk when reinstalling WIndows 7. Thus you need to back up all your essential data produced in Ubuntu first.

Hope that helps

It's nothing to do with Ubuntu. Your recovery disks will remove all partitions and install Windows so is nothing to do with ubuntu. If you want to keep ubuntu you don't have to exert any effort.
