ubuntu 10.04 usb install/trial not working

Asked by luke whart

i downloaded ubuntu 10.04 both desktop and netbook versions followed the instructions for booting off a usb flash drive, desktop version copys fine to the flash drive and when i boot from usb i get the screen where i can select install or run when i select either run or install the ubuntu logo comes up with the flashing dots but after that the screen just goes black. when i run the program for setting up the flash drive using the netbook version i have a diagnostic box appear befor the program finishes what it has todo giving me about 60 warnings ( cant remember what exactly it said now ) if i click ok the program finishes then when i boot from flash i get to the options screen but when i select to either run or install the 5sec timer thing just resets.

Its not linux specific. MD5 is a defacto way of checing a file's health by calculating a hash value based on the data structure. Don't worry, many ignorant windows users are oblivious to MD5 testing but it is essential so you know the data you downloaded is complete and consistant:

It is for dummies! If you are using windows download winmd5sum and use it. You right click the file and send it to winmd5sum. You then open the hashes link in the link ab ove and paste in the correct md5sum hash. If the 2 match you have a good file.

The idea of the link is to explain stuff so helpers and people who websearch can find out how to do stuff without us having to repeatedly type the same stuff, we can just give a link and you can follow it. Don't be startled by the volume of text, simply click on the link on the right which corresponds to the OS you downloaded the ISO with and read.

There are also videos on youtube if you need something more visual but the guide is made for beginners, all you have to do is follow it.

Can you help with this problem?
