I need a printer driver for a Lexmark all in one X75m that works with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

Asked by mfctome

Although my current distro (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS) includes a printer driver for the Lexmark X74, the is none for the Lexmark X75 all in one. The X74 driver will not work with the X75. My OS 'sees' the printer, but lacks the driver. Surely there is one out there someplace? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please send help to - <email address hidden>. Thanks

Hello mfctome:

I hate to have to inform you of this, but Lexmark printers, as of current, are not very Linux friendly. They have little to no support. Even though the printer is detected, it is rare that it will print. And unfortunately, there are most likely no drivers to be found. The specific drivers that are listed will provide simply printing functions for those devices alone, and usually none of the others in the series.

The average response to Lexmark drivers is to return the printer and buy an HP, that obviously is your call. One additional workaround would be to use a spare Windows system and share the printer (although I don't really like the idea of needing Windows to print from Linux). Either way, I hope this has helped.

Thanks,
Justin M. Wray
