Load Cycle Count goes up like crazy

Asked by Woody

I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.4 Desktop on my Dell mini 10 Netbook, and decided to check the load cycle count to see if there might be any issues. It was indeed incrementing and quite fast while on AC power so i decide to enable laptop mode, i did set HD management to 1 and that seemed to solve the problem. This morning upon checking again while on battery, i noticed the count was going up like crazy at a rate of about ~150/hour. I tried enabling/disabling laptop-mode but that had no effect.
However when the AC power is plugged in all is normal and the count increments at a normal 17/hour rate - even if laptop mode is now disable.

This is pretty confusing data and I'm not sure what to do. Help and suggestions much appreciated.
