How to change desktop in 10.04 LTS

I would like to use the standard desktop and can't get it to change.

if you mean you want to change the desktop environment
you only need to
 Log out
 and fro the down bar you can change it

Sorry, I was not to clear. Upgraded to 10.04LTS today and I had the version that has the Icons etc and not just the standard desktop. For the Mini computers.
With the old version, I could switch between the icons or the standard desktop but that program does not work in the new version.
I want to switch back to a standard desktop.
