CD-write

Asked by oddvar

All CD's destroyed after writing.
I have downloaded many movies for watching on my TV. This function for Feisty perfectly earlier.
Now whenever I use DeVeDe to split movies, and Brasero to burn to CD, my CD-player on the TV-set say "No disc" only. Whats more is that Brasero automatically start when I insert a blank CD, but after *successful* burn, the CD can not even be mounted in the CD-rom in my computer.
This is a big problem, and up to this time at least 10-15 CD's have been destroyed this way. As I say, everything functioned perfectly earlier but after re-installation of Feisty I have not been able to write a single CD. This is a big problem, and I have absolutely no idea what can be the reason.
Could it be some error in the CD's?
What can I do? I hope I dont have to reinstall Feisty again.

Additional info:
I buy new CD to be sure the CD's are not the problem.
Exactly the same as before happen: When I insert the blank CD Brasero say a blank CD is inserted.
I use DeVeDe to transcode and Brasero to burn. After *successful* writing, the tray open and I test the CD in my player.
After long time (2 or 3 min) it displays 'NO DISC'.
To make sure the problem is the CD I test a CD I know is function. The CD-player play the movie as normal, no problem whatsoever.

You might want to try burning them at a lower speed (eg 32x in stead of 48x or the default speed of your CD burner).

I always burn at 8x, gnomebaker use 4x. It must be related to some system failure, because this function perfect earlier. I have tried new installation on Feisty 2 times, but the error still there. The first time I installed Feisty on this machine (it is only 3 mnths old) everything was perfect for CD-writing. I have reinstalled Feisty 2 or 3 times because of this problem, but it comes back.

This happen 2 months ago:
I experience the video-cd I write with DeVeDe give a very blurred and staccato playback on my tv-set.
The homepage of DeVeDe www.rastersoft.com say there is a problem with playback cd in Ubuntu Feisty.

>>Note for Ubuntu Feisty users: currently (as April 20, 2007), the Mplayer/Mencoder version in Ubuntu Feisty is buggy and produces noisy sound when used with DeVeDe. While the maintainer doesn't fix it, you can use the package with the previous version, available in the Download section).<<

I downloaded and run the fix for Feisty. 64-bit although I dont know for sure how many bits this PC use. Only I could see is all Pentium D processors use 64 bit addressing.
After this fix, all my CD's have been as described earlier, even I have reinstalled Feisty from scratch.

How to completely blank my HD? I think there might be old data even after a new install.

Yo completly blank you HD you can format partitions during install. You can even delete previous Ubuntu partitions and create new ones in the same place.

Can you help with this problem?
