Need fix for Firefox

Asked by Gary

I did something to cause Firefox to remove the minimize, size and quit buttons on the top line. The screen also refreshes when a box appears on the screen when running the mouse over a word etc..
I am running 8.04 with all the updates.

Please point me in the in the right direction to correct this problem.
I have tried to update Firefox then I removed it and reinstalled it to no avail.

Thanks in advance.
Gary

Are the buttons present on the other programs and windows?

Try this: Press Alt+F2 together, and than write in that box:

metacity --replace

and press Enter.

Thanks Mario. That solved the problem of the screen refreshing every time I used the mouse to pick a choice on the screen.

I still don't have the icons on the top bar that allows me to minimize, size or quit the screen.

Thanks for all help.

Do you have compiz and emerald installed?

Yes compiz is installed. Emerald returns an apt-get for the desktop and icons.

Is it maybe running full screen?
Try F11 twice.

Other windows also have no buttons?
Verify via gconf-editor (applications -> system tools -> gconf-editor)
if metacity has buttons layout
path:
/apps/metacity/general/button_layout
string e.g.:
maximize,minimize,close
