bcm43xx with Feisty AMD64

Asked by wjr74

I was using 32-bit Feisty it worked perfectly with bcm43xx-fwcutter. I upgraded to Feisty AMD64. I tried to install bcm43xx drivers from Synaptic Package Manager. It downloads, installs, but it ends with an error (1), and it does not fetch the drivers. What does the error mean, why can the drivers not be fetched, and how can I get Feisty AMD64 to work with my bcm43xx (bcm4318).

I have tried installing bcm43xx drivers from Ubuntu.com and Debian.com, but neither works.

I have the original CD that contains the Windows XP bcm43xx drivers. I can easy copy them to my Feisty AMD64, but how can I install them into a Feisty AMD64 compliant home-made package so I can burn it to a CD and re-install anytime I wish?

You are not going to be making it into a debian package. You will install 'ndiswrapper' (which is a debian package) to the system and then install the drivers from the CD. ndiswrapper is what allows you to use the Windows drivers in Linux.

Please take a look at this documentation, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx. Follow the directions provided and your should have the device working again. Anytime you reinstall your system, you will again need to follow the steps provided above, and obtain the driver for your device.
