Dmaz,

Don't get disappointed and quit. Ubuntu may seem confusing at the moment but with a little time and patience it will do everything you need it to do. The first thing is to join the Ubuntu user forums at http://www.ubuntuforums.org (register for a user name and password). You can post absolutely any question you need to and people will be willing to help. Once you're signed into the forums check out the following thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=413624

There are a few more things you need to do to enable Ubuntu to play your DVD's, but the information in this thread is a good start. If you post an email address I'd be happy to send you a document I wrote that will explain everything.
