ading new screen resolution

now i have only screen resolution 800*600.i want to add more screen resolution ,1024*720 etc
please give me the steps for adding this

What is the video chip? You have given zero information. Just an FYI, the question will remain open so you don't have to continually update the question with barks for help. It makes you look pathetic.

Please post the output of this command :

lspci | grep VGA

(Will help you to identify the video card installed in your system.)

You can also try System->Preferences->Monitors and check what screen resolutions are available to you.
