will not print

Asked by lloyd

Using Ubuntu 7.04 printer set up, system recognizes the Lexmark 730 printer but the driver does not seem to work. The printer will take in the paper but will not print anything on it. Same reaction trying to print test page. This USB printer works OK in Windows XP. Am new to Ubuntu, when trying to track down a Driver, postscript was suggested but I am not sure how to acquire it.

If it is the Lezmark Z730 (not 7300), then it is supported.
See http://openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi (search for Lexmark). There is an entry for Z730.

I would suggest to search in ubuntuforums.org (click for Advanced search) and also in https://bugs.launchpad.net/
Use as keywords Lexmark CUPS

Yes there is an entry for z730 as suggested. The suggestion is that postscript printers do no need a driver. Then why does it not print?? Maybe I am too thick.

Use as keywords Lexmark, CUPS.

In these cases, there are high chances that someone else got in the same use case. Therefore, you will be able to get some hints as to how to troubleshoot.

Also make sure that the installation is "pristine". That is, no other non-Ubuntu software has been installed that may interfere.

Can you help with this problem?
