Ubuntu 10.04 netbook i386 does not recognize hard drive HP2133

Tried to install 10.04 netbook edition into HP 2133, from CD and when selected to install does not see HDD. Disk Utility can only recognize CD, HDD has Windows XP installed and has 60GB of unused space available for other O/S. GParted does not see drive either. System uses Via C7 processor. System test reports no hdd!

Recommends the alternate ISO to install in text mode.

I also suggest your BIOS is checked it is the latest and upgrade if you can.
