Acer Aspire Notebook compatability

Asked by Solracblue2000

Will Ubuntu have drivers for all the hardware on my Acer Aspire 5920?

I have a love hate relationship with Windows. I would really like to find an alternative. The main obstacle with using other OS's on my Acer is finding drivers for that OS.

Thanks,
John

According to the following 2 links, the notebook should be fully compatible with Ubuntu:

http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/Acer/ASPIRE+5920G

http://www.linlap.com/wiki/acer+aspire+5920

But the best thing to do, is to test Ubuntu 10.04 yourself. You can fully boot the Ubuntu 10.04 CD into a LiveCD session and then test EVERYTHING (sound, wireless, graphics, etc...) before committing to an install. During the LiveCD session, you will NOT be touching or using the harddisk at all.

So there is no danger in simply testing Ubuntu FIRST.

Ubuntu might support all your hardware out-of-the-box, without having to search for drivers....

I would concur with this. I have two Acer's and I was able to install fine without any hardware conflicts. It's always worthwhile to check HCL before attempting to install on any many to make yourself aware of any potential pitfalls first.
