how to login in ubuntu as administrator or in root account???

When i start the update manager, i'm asked to start it manually, by typing the following command:

dpkg --configure -a

then i tried it in terminal with someone's help and some more commands.

but it asked for administrative priviledge.

What should i do??????????????
please help.......

Also, if you have a lot of commands you need to run and you're too lazy to type sudo before each command (like me), try "sudo -s". This will give you a root terminal.
