Ubuntu 10.04.1-Need keyboard layout for Dell SK8000 to enable number pad.

Asked by Wladicus

I am trying to set up the keyboard layout for my Dell SK-8000 keyboard to make my number pad work. There is no such choice in the keyboard settings choices in Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS. My keyboard worked perfectly with no setup at all when I had Kubuntu 8.04 LTS on this same machine. The computer is an old COMPAQ, but the keyboard is a Dell SK-8000. Can anyone help me get around this problem?
Also, can one select sounds for various events such as say "'breaking glass sound" for emptying the trash bin? This also, I was able to do in Kubuntu 8.04 LTS but have not been able to find an equivalent in Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS.
Thank you for your time.

I found a workaround to get my number pad activated at the following website:
http://nancib.wordpress.com/2008/03/17/fixing-the-borked-numeric-keypad-in-ubuntu-hardy/
As quoted from the home page (below), I unchecked the box and now have a active number pad on my Dell keyboard.
(I imagine this will work on any keyboard).
"Go into the Keyboard Preferences (System >Preferences > Keyboard) and go to the Mouse Keys tab. Simply uncheck the box for Allow to control the pointer using the keyboard. "
