Remote Desktop Viewer

Asked by Kino Velez

Trying to RDV VNC from Ubuntu 64 Bit 10.04 to W7(Enterprise) with tight VNC installed. Was able to get in once and after rebooting I keep getting ""Connection to host 192.168.2.101 was closed." Any other of the W7 machines can VNC or Remote Desktop into 192.158.2.101 (w7 Machine). I have spent several days online and have not found solution.

You can use rdesktop or tsclient. You can access the Win7 desktop SECURELY (VNC is NOT secure at all) using RDP. Simply enable remote logon in Windows and you can connect to it. You will need to port forward the RDP port if you use a router.

I am inside my own home network port 5900 open. All windows 7 computer can connect Remote Desk Top to each other no problem.  I just can Remote Dersk top via Windows Remote Desktop or VNC to any Windows Computer.  The error I get is when I try to connect from Ubuntu to  Windows.

Can the ubuntu system ping the server? Are you connecting to the right port etc.

Yes it can ping the address with no problem. I also checked to make sure port was open.

Please don't reply via mail to Launchpad mail notification but visit directly your question Launchpad site link.
Replying via mail to launchpad message might expose your email address to the net and you will give a lot of
spam.

Then you cannot manage your question in a good way and the thread will be confused...

I was able to get in using Terminal Server Client instead of Remote Desktop Viewer which appeared to be the obvious one for me. I am still puzzled why RDV would not work but I can connect.
