Asked by Remo Coon

When I use the menu to start a new program, especially a Nautilus window, it does not get focus and I can't find a configuration to change that.

Could you be a little more specific? Do you mean a like "blurred" like a visual effect?
I don't seem to have such kind of a prob on my 10.04 box...

No, I mean that the window starts minimized. The focus of the desktop does not change. This is not a visual issue like a lens. It is an issue of the windowing system not switching to the program that was just started. Thanks.

I discovered that a change in the Appearance Preferences > Visual Effects from "none" to "normal" helped with this but did not completely solve it. The problem is less frequent, now.

This is a bug that's been in Lucid since before release:

Can't confirm the issue either, but don't have nvidia driver.
When visual effects are on, maybe it helps to enable 'Gnome compatibility' in compiz manager.
Did you change any settings while using visual effects?
Metacity compositing should be turned off while using Compiz.
## It's in gconf-editor /apps/metacity/general

I am pretty sure that I am not using Compiz.
