No internet connection in Feisty Fawn

Asked by Roger Duncan

When I install Feisty there is no internet connection, so I have stayed with Edgy for the time being. Is there some way to get my internet connection going when I install Feisty Fawn?

My ISP is Bell Canada Sympatico.

It's a high speed ethernet connection using a Seimens Speedstream 4200 modem.

There are several things you might want to check when you use Feisty:

1. Make sure you enable restricted drivers in System -> Administration -> Restricted Drivers Manager. This could prevent network drivers that you need from loading properly.

2. I've googled your modem, and it appears to be an ADSL modem. Try the following wiki article to get your modem running in 7.04:
https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/internet/C/connect-to-internet.html#internet-basic-procedure

3. If you continue to have problems, please post specifically what fails. When you right-click on the Network Manager in the upper right corner of your screen and select "Connection Information." That will help determine if anything is working at all.

Can you help with this problem?
