trouble with initial login

i dont understand how to login in the beginning screen. is the username it asks for my isp name and password? if not, how do i create a new username? i tried typing in a random username and password but it didnt work.
please help!

You created your username and password during the install. If you're not the one who installed the system, you should contact the person who did to get the username and pass, and change it as soon as you're loged in.

There are some ways to get a forgottent login/pass, but the easyest way is probably to reinstall and don't forget you login !

this was before install.... first running the .iso to "start/install" the OS.. mebbe it needed verification of isp service or something because when i disconnected my modem from the computer it started up with no problem. thanks

I do have the same problem, my german and spanish friends are trying to solve it with me.

when I have the solution I'll post it here.

oh, sorry. you solved it allready.
well, I still have the problem because I have no modem installed, so I can't turn it off.

I used Wubi installer to drop ubuntu in on top of my Windows XP install.

Nowhere did the install ask for an initial login/password.

However when booting Ubuntu for the first time, I am greeted with the request to furnish a login/password. Duhhhhhhhhhhh wonder what it might be.
