set language for individual program

How can I set the language for an individual program (not for the entire systems) which a want to start from the menu. Setting the language from the command line works by defining the locale individually:

LANG=<your language code> <your application>

Using exactly this command in the menu configuration does not work and in gconf I could not find any language setting for my program (may be I missed that). Writing a wrapper script would be a possibility but that I would not prefer if there is any, simple solution.
