Why doesnt gnome support different wallpapers for my 4 or more workspaces?

Asked by dt01

I'm quite sure one of my previous Ubuntu installations supported different wallpapers for every workspace. why doesn't the current ? Or does compiz negate the possibility of having different wallpapers for the workspaces?

This takes away the desktop functions and isn't worth trying.
