Bill,

Need a bit more information to further assist you.

What type of systems is it, Desktop, Laptop, Netbook, Brand Model etc,. The more details, the better.

What Installation CD are you trying to use, Desktop, Server, Netbook, remix etc?

Id' highly recommend the latest ISO CD from: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/release/

Additionally, when burning the ISO, make sure your CD-ROM is not set to max speeds. I burn my ISO's at the slowest speed possible on the drive to ensure the best possible transfer.

Bill,

My recommendation, download and burn the following ISO:

http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ubuntu-10.04-alternate-i386.iso

Once burned, do the following:

1. Select a language for the install and press Enter
2. Select a location for the install and press Enter
3. On Keybord Layout select No and press Enter
4. Select the origin of the keyboard and press Enter (The default for you location and language should already be selected)
5. Select the layout you wish to use on the keyboard and press Enter (The default for you location and language should already be selected)
6. Add a hostname for the machine and press Enter (bills_laptop or whatever)
7 Select your time zone (should be correct but change if necessary)
8. Select Guided - use entire disk and press Enter
9. Select the disk to use and press Enter
10 Select Yes to accept the changes and press Enter

Let it run through the Installation.

After that, there will be few more questions like username, passwords, etc. and then install Grub = Yes.

Let us know the results.
