Where is the Super User ... ? As simple a question as it can get!

Asked by Bahram Saghari

Folks,
In the old Unix/Linux days, we did SU and entered the root password to becom root.

When installing Ubuntu, it never asked for a ROOT or Super user password only a login for a new user.
How does one become super user ...?!!!

Thanks in advance,
Bahram

The Ubuntu system is known as a RootSudo type system.

When you entered the user-names during install you selected the name for your RootSudo (sudo) user, and following that, the pw you entered and confirmed where your primary or 1st user, and sudo passwords.

To Administer your system, you use sudo, not root. Using root on a RootSudo system causes all sorts of problems, and should be avoided unless you know it's exact interaction / impact on the system.

See Info About RootSudo: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo
