Should i up-grade 9.10 to 10.04 ?

Asked by titagula

I upgraded from Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10 i did this about 4 months ago, and now there is version 10.04 available. I think i would upgrade it, but the last time i upgraded it, this happened https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/104944 if the link doesn't work correctly, this is it in a nutshell. I downloaded it, (left it go overnight b/c it said it would take a few hours) and when i came back the next day, the screen was black and i had no idea what to do. Someone on this forum helped me out by giving me the code to type in (sudo dpkg --configure -a) but i am hesitant to upgrade for fear of this happening again, does anyone have help for this, or a way to prevent it from happening or something? Thanks in advance :)

Before I upgrade any software I always look at the system requirements of the newer version. I'm still running 9.04 because my iBook PPC isn't compatible with 10.04. Another reason is that I'm pretty happy with 9.04, I don't have an urgent need to upgrade. You might want to do some research before you decide to upgrade or not.

9.10 is upgraded waaaay into next year. So you can run Karmic for a long time to come. Personally I always reinstall to get the next release, it's a cleaner system.
