wireless connection needs Windows XP first

Asked by marossity

Using SONY VGN-NS105N

I installed Ubuntu 10.04. I have dual boot with Windows XP. At first everything worked well. Over the next few months I installed the Ubuntu updates. Now when I turn on the computer and load Ubuntu, I can't connect to my specified channel on the wireless modem/router. Although I do receive the little message box informing me that I have successfully connected. I then restart the computer, load Windows XP and select my wireless modem. I connect with no problems. I immediately restart, loading Ubuntu again, and all works well, including the automatic wireless connection.
There are a couple of hot spots in my area. When the problem occurs above, if I select one of the open connections, I connect. It is only when I try to connect to my specific, password protected channel that it fails.

Go into device manager in windows and turn off power saving mode as well as the devices ability to wake the system up. This annoyance "locks" the hardware so it is not usable. Disabling these features will mean the connection will be fine when you jump between the OSes (very annoying but hey, its microsoft)

Can you help with this problem?
