Configuring wired LAN

  I Like configure LAN( ubuntu ) for 4 computers on the client_server basis using the 8 port Switch.
   I am new to pls tell me the step by step to configure Server and Client.

Which services do you want to share?

Most likely an ip address will be assigned by dhcp from your switch and the client machines will not need any configuration. You could set a fixed ip address on the server, but most likely even that is not needed as the switch will most likely give the same ip address to the device anyway.

You will want the subnet of 255.255.255.0 on ALL the systems. They will then want an IP address following this pattern

192.168.0.1
192.168.0.2
192.168.0.3
192.168.0.4

and so on

Home grade switches do not have DHCP servers so the systems will need the IPs defining statically. If you attatch a router to one of the ports to share internet connection then this will act as the DHCP server and configure IP addresses, subnet masks and the like automagically.

This will give you the basic logic of the network.
