Asked by quietsteve

Hello. Im a new convert running 9.10 on a dell d505 I tried to upgrade to 10.4 but ran into the video problem as described in Bug #568939. Will the 10.10 release contain a fix? Is there a reliable workaround yet?

Have you tried the work-arounds listed here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes ?

For my own machine, which is a Dell Inspiron 700m I was able to boot using Workaround A: Re-enable KMS
Then I upgraded to kernel .34 (workaround D upgrade) and added the X-Updates ppa (workaround C upgrade)
Then turn off desktop effects and run no GL apps.

Not really an ideal solution (for myself) but things have been fairly steady, but I have no GL.

From what I've seen, they are testing two potential solutions, and they are putting in place improved data collection and reporting for GPU hangs like this. (Here's hoping for fixes)
