Xubuntu Start menu empty

Asked by Cesc Llagostera

When I installed Xubuntu, I didn't have any menu entry for the installed aplications.

When I install a new aplication it doesn't appear in the menu.

What can I do to auto-create the menu?

Thank you

I installed Xubuntu 7.04 when it was out, and many of the installed applications had relevant menu entries. More, when I add applications, their entries usually appear in the menu.

What version of Xubuntu did you install?

Could you give an example of an application that had no corresponding menu entry after the installation, so I can take a look?

Hi,

It was a 6.06 xubuntu upgraded to 6.10 and to 7.04.

The menu entries have never worked.

The only menu icons that I have have been added manually.

I'll try tomorrow to add a new application to try it again.

Thanks

Try opening the menu editor (right-click on the menu button and click 'edit menus'), go to File -> Add External, select type 'System', click 'ok', and click 'File -> Save'.
See if that restores the applications list. You can drag the list anywhere in the menu you want.

Err... Make that 'Edit -> Add External', not 'File -> Add External'.
