Can't install ubuntu/no display

I have a 40 inch rca tv hooked to my computer
and a Ati radeon hd5770 graphics card
whats the easiest way to install ubuntu 10.4
it doesnt detect the display after the first load screen for the main install screen

I got the install to display and now it freezes when the install starts and just shows a purple screen.
Is that Ubuntu working extremely slow and not crashing?
I have a fairly fast computer has intel 920 processor 6 gb of ram

ok got the display and the installer up and running problem im having now is its not detecting partition on a hard drive thats setup with raid0
