External drive no longer recognised

Asked by Matt Jones

I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 for Snow Leopard and followed the instruction on the download page for running it from a USB drive. Not only was i unable to boot it form start up, it also appears as if all the files that were on the drive were gone and replaced by the Ubuntu ones and my PS3 no longer recognises the drive. Having all my music, films and tv shows on there, this is causing me major problems. Does anyone know how to return it to the original format without the loss of any of the original data? Or is it too late for that? Im not really bothered if i lose the Ubuntu download.

Thanks

Matt

Yes, installing Ubuntu on a USB drive reformats the drive and erases all of your data. You could try a file recovery program from the internet somewhere, but I doubt that you will be able to get much of the stuff back. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Can you help with this problem?
