You really don't want beryl, since it has been merged back into compiz-fusion. See http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/compiz/2007-August/002614.html.

Beryl is going unmaintained, and is in many ways older than compiz-git, which is already provided by Ubuntu.
If you still want to install beryl nevertheless, you should package it by hand.

Moreover, since compiz is deeply interwined with the rest of your system, you may want to upgrade to current Feisty to experience better overall effects.

Yes, I am wanting to install the Beryl utility on my Ubuntu 7.10 system, can I? And would this copy of Free BSD Beta Version 1.4 w/Beryl work?

Thanks
