will not install..gfx card related?

Asked by Bahney

i am trying to install ubuntu 32bit version i get to the loading screen fine from the boot cd and then on the menu where you have the options to install or install gfx safe mode etc no matter which option i pick the screen is not viewable, it goes into a sort of v-sync and it stretches across the screen so it is unreadable and you can see a sort of gray squiggle when i move the mouse indicarteing everything must be ok..i just can't see it running :(

i am sure you have guessed already..i have an ATI card, X1900 model, is there an iso image with diffrent drivers? at the moment i dont even have linux installed! so i can't try any other drivers or anything.

i should stress i am a complete Linux newbie, lol if you hadent already guessed :)

hope you can help i am really looking forward to having a go with this and get Beryl working and use VMware to monitor any downloads running on my xp partition(which i will keep just to run/play games)

i really fancy having a good go at linux, just this first stumbling block i need to get over

you could use the alternate cd install (text based, but not that much harder). To download it just check the "alternate cd" option on the download page

also, play around with the system without enabling desktop effects. Doing so might turn your system unstable and cause you to think ubuntu is unstable because you enabled something known not to be stable :)
