10.04 won't install

Asked by james malcom

Hi. I run 9.1 and it's great. tried 10.04 and I get a load screen and then just blank screen. I've tried upgrade, live cd, install from usb, etc. I've tried every which way possible, nothing works. I seem to have the same issues as these people:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/575103

I'm running a Gateway 6021GZ. Reinstalled 9.1 after upgrade and it work's fine again. I'm not real savy, so I'm not looking for a fix. My question is; is this something the ubuntu people are aware of and are going to resolve in the future, or is this my own unique problem and I'm stuck at 9.1 from now on? (not complaining too much. like I said, works great.) If there is a fix in the pipeline, any idea when?
Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

Before installation, had you checked the ISO file before burning?

First try it this way,
Boot to the disk and choose try. Once the cd has booted up choose to install at that time.
If this does not work, use update manager to update to the newer version.

there are optional ways to install the disk. If you can boot to the disk and see the desktop then it can be installed. Sometimes ubuntu will have an issue with a video card at first but once the OS is installed and the updated are installed or perhaps a video driver is needed and installed , All will work out fine.

Be advised ! There are some issues in Ubuntu 10.04 that may affect you once loaded.

I am going jto go back to 9.10 because I can not live with the printing issues and the disapearing items on my top panel

I tried updating through update manager. same problem. freezes up while loading.Had to reinstall 9.1 after. Same thing installing from disk or usb. Can't get to desktop to run updates. Been checking around and it seems other people are having the same problem and it sounds like it might have to do with the Intel 855GM chipset.

Or try this: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-fix-ubuntu-10-04-lts-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup.html

Also BE SURE you have burned a valid md5sum verified iso.

Hope this help
