It appeared that it was designed for a desktop computer. Does that also include laptops?

Yes Joseph. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook C-1020 laptop. Except a few minor issues is working fine. First Ubuntu version used on this laptop was 5.10 and so far so good.
