Font install

Asked by Nick D'Auteuil

I'm moving over from Winblows to Ubuntu full time now and i need to move my collection of fonts from windows to Ubuntu. The only way i have seen so far is to manually install every font one by one, but as i have 40000+ fonts, this could take a very long time. Is their any shorter way to install multiple fonts in a batch? and is their any program that will manage fonts for me and only enable the ones i choose at a certain time? or must they all be installed at once and if so, will their be a performance decrease? any light that can be shed on this is greatly appreciated.

Open Home folder > view > enable "show hidden files" > there should be ".fonts" folder > paste all your fonts there and restart

there is no .fonts folder, only a .fontconfig that has no fonts in it, only cache-3

Ok, now open Home folder > View > Show Hidden Files > create .fonts folder (with dot in font) and paste all your fonts there.

I tried this and it does work, but because of the amount of fonts is so vast it greatly slows my system down, is their any way to manage my fonts so that only ones i need at the time are installed without having to un-install and install a font every time i wish to use it?

It's not about manage and configuration, the large amount of fonts affect the system as well as other files, I think the best option is to use when they are needed.
