default programs

hello guys, i use vlc as my media player, goolge chrome as browser, adobe as pdf reader. how do i set them as my default programs??? tried the right click method, tried setting it in the d player, assistive technologies, failed
also, i accidentally set kmplayer as my default dvd player. how can i change that??

I have not Ubuntu under my eyes (I'm currently under Windows), but if I remember for most types of file, under a file explorer, open properties of a file. You should be able to change default application.
