WHERE DO I GET UBUNTU APPLICATION SOFTWARES

OR, you could install the VLC player from the Terminal (Accessories->Terminal)

Before doing the actual installation, it would be advisable for you to update your repository using the command below:

sudo apt-get update

then the actual installation:

sudo apt-get install vlc

To open PDF files, I think evince is pre-installed by default. If you'd like to use the Acrobat Reader (With Firefox plugin), install it from the Terminal using the command below:

sudo apt-get install acroread mozilla-acroread acroread-plugins

for media use vlc
open ubuntu software centre, type vlc and install it

for pdf, use adobe reader,

( choose different os. choose ubuntu and choosed for 9.04+)

for browsine the net, use google chrome,

http://www.google.com/chrome
choose .deb version

for java, go to ubuntu software center, type sun java and install it

for flash player

get 9.04+ version

for pictures, use picasa
