Most likely you lack some audio codecs needed for playing audio.

You may lack file called divxa32.acm in somewhere /usr/lib/codecs/ etc. Get it and try again. Does gxine tells any error messages when started at console? And to avoid possible file access rights problems try starting gxine also using sudo.

Can you help with this problem?
