sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa && sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

You can also install test versions of firefox and thunderbird.

Here is what I have:

Template "firefox-3.6" in Ubuntu Lucid package "firefox"

The thing is I have Ubuntu 10.4 64 bit,
When I click on a URL in thunderbird it opens a new tab

in FireFox but it does not pop over ThunderBird.

I had Kubuntu 10.4 64 bit and all I had to do was to
go to systems setting and click on windows behavior
then in that window I would click on windows behavior

and to the right I would make focus none then hit
apply. There it would pop up over thunderbird so
I could see the URL in a tab in FireFox.

I ran the commands above but no different.

Have any idea actionparsnip

Log a bug then is all I can suggest. You may need to make a script or some other work around to make the firefox window become the active window
