lacie external hard drive not reconised by ubuntu

i have just switched to ubuntu from windows,,,,i pluged in my external lacie hard drive and nothing,,,im not sure what to do now,,,,PLEASE HELP,,I DONT WANT TO GO BACK TO WINDOWS

Can you have the device attatched and powered on and run:

sudo fdisk -l; mount
